This Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) public works project involves a 510 kilowatt (kW) roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the transit district’s maintenance building in Oakland, Calif.  The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) serves the diverse community by operating out of four yards located in Richmond, Emeryville, Oakland and Hayward. The Oakland-based maintenance yard houses the Cupertino Electric, Inc. (CEI) designed and built PV system for the transit district. The solar system will help reduce the transit district’s operational costs by utilizing alternative energy and a non-penetrating module/racking system.

The electricity generated by the photovoltaic system will be significant enough to offset the electricity used to create the hydrogen powering the transit system’s hydrogen-powered buses running throughout the East Bay.
